In Memory of Evona Hill Mullins
To send flowers in memory of Evona "'Nonie'" Mullins (Hill ), please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
Evona Hill ‘Nonie’ Mullins, 93, joined the Lord on June 3, 2019; she had resided at Life Care Center of Gray for the past 16 months where she received excellent love, care, and support from the staff. Her family moved from Dickenson County, VA in the early 1940s, as did her future husband of 66 years, the late Everett F. “Moon” Mullins. Both served in the war effort with Evona working in Kingsport’s ‘Cotton Mill’ making war supplies, and Moon in the U.S Navy in the South Pacific. After the war they were married in 1945, and are now reunited. From the early 1940s until death, both resided in Sullivan County, where Nonie attended Celebration Church.
Nonie was a dedicated wife and mother, friend to all, hard worker, and one who loved to read, watch the Braves, travel, camp, and fish. After retirement many winters were spent in South and Central Florida crappie fishing and entertaining friends and family, but always returning home in time for spring trout fishing on Patrick Henry Lake, fishing being a passion of both Nonie and Moon.
Evona was preceded in death by her parents, Swinfield and Lizzie Hill, siblings Flossie (infant), Delmer (Bessie) Hill, Helen (Ted) Edwards, and Arizona (Archie) Hyatt. She is survived by her brothers, William (Margaret) Hill, and Avery/Gerald (Ruth) Hill, son Gary Mullins and wife Barbara Ludwig, the Ludwig children, Kim (Tom) Gray, and their children, Jameson and Delaney Gray, and Betsy Ludwig; daughters-in-law Toumonava Nave Nelson and Mary Ann Webster; goddaughter and long-time caregiver, Vicki Bledsoe and husband Jack, and their family, Mary (Lee) Dixon and their late child Emmett Lee, Molly (Adam) Davis and their children Rosie Mae and Hannah Grace, as well as numerous beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children, and friends from all around the nation. Diane Jobe and Helen Moorefield, who served with Vicki Bledsoe and niece Edna Hill Vance (Rex) as Nonie’s caregivers, extensively for the past two years, are also cherished members of her extended family. To Nonie and Moon, all in their friendship circle were considered family and a blessing from God. The extended family will receive friends from 11AM -1PM Sunday, June 9 at East Tennessee Funeral Home (2630 TN HWY 75/Airport Road, Blountville). A service to celebrate her full life will follow at 1PM in the chapel, officiated by her nephew, Pastor Gregory Edwards, Coeburn, VA. Interment will follow in the East Tennessee Cemetery in the Garden of Everlasting Life. If you so desire, in lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to any organization that benefits children, a cause which Nonie always supported.
East Tennessee Funeral Home & Cemetery is honored to serve the Mullins Family.
