Florence Wilma Martin, 88, entered into the arms of Jesus Wednesday morning, January 2, 2019, following a brief illness. Wilma was born on July 28, 1930, in Kingsport, TN, to the late Fred and Iva G. Wilma dedicated her life to serving other. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she will be greatly missed. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary Bowery. Left to cherish her memories is the love of her life, husband Hubert Martin. She leaves behind sons, Tommy Martin and wife Shari, Danny Martin and wife Glenda, along with two grandchildren who were her pride and joy; Jennifer Greeson (Andrew) and Christopher Martin (Shelley). She had five beautiful great-grandchildren, Quinn, Callan, and Georgia Greeson and Jack and Joli Martin. Brother Phil Bowery and wife, Jane, along with sister, Bobbie Gilbert and sister-in-law, Judy Bowery, remember her for her generous spirit. She had several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Special Thank you to the caregivers and staff at Brookdale in Colonial Heights who loved her so much.
Receiving of friends will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Sunnyside Baptist Church from 5:00-7:00 PM with a funeral service to follow. I knew Wilma many years ago as a high school pharmacy tech at Colonial Heights Pharmacy. Wilma took me under her wing and became like a second mom. She was an important part of my life for that chapter of my life. I moved away in 1986 and started a life in Sevier county. I lost touch. I read today of her passing. I reflect back on the positive impact she made on my teenage and young adult life. I love Wilma and am greatful for her becoming a part of my life at a time when I needed her. Many blessings to her and to her family. Sarah Rinker Merritt

Dear Hubert, Danny & Glenda, Tom & Shari SO SORRY Mom and I didn't make the receiving of friends or memorial service for your mother. I only just learned of her "homegoing" this morning (Tuesday, Jan 8). We'll be praying for your all in the coming days. She was a special lady her, and I'm sure the celebration in heaven was HUGE when she arrived "home". If there is anything we can do to help - please let us know!!! Lisa and Alethia Ferguson

Wilma & Hubert were lifelong friends of my parents, Graham & Clara Pendergrass. Daddy always tried to get in touch when in from NC. Prayers for you at this time and for your dad in the days ahead.
